Creature Comforts

A very obvious and famous use of lip syncing, it's incredibly intelligent how they use animals to portray the characteristics that the voice doesn't. What animal they are is relevant to what they're talking about.  For example the dog talking about his wrinkly baby (wrinkly dog) and the horse outside Buckingham Palace talking about the Queen.

In the clip with Joanna Lumley, she is talking about being 3 in hong kong, and not being able to speak chinese fluently. And that one day she will be speaking properly and the grownups won't look down on her and smile.
I think I want to make my animation humorous.

Lip Sync Clip

There are two clips I'm finding it hard to decide between, one is of Joanna Lumley. I'm unable to get the clip up. But this interview gives you an example of her soft voice. I've always thought her voice was great, it's so calming. It's very famous for documentaries.

She has a very clear voice, I don't know if it's a slight disadvantage that I know who the voice belongs to. Although this is what it often used in animation, whoever voices the characters. The characters often look the same.

Joanna has only voiced a few characters, and non of them show a resemblance. But that can change.

Introduction

Create a dialogue based animated character performance.

This project will challenge your ability to breathe life into a character through lip sync, facial and upper body acting. You will analyse a set audio file and create a performance through primary research. You are challenged with enhancing the audio file through contextualisation and performance.

I MUST HAVE:

  • Character Performance a Quicktime video file, 1920x1080, Pro Res, audio uncompressed.
  • Experimentation Reel detailing your development through iteration towards final outcomes.
  • Research Portfolio a link to your blog demonstrating sustained engagement with research, development and an awareness and application of the industry practices expected within your animation technique. This must include a weekly summary.
  • Reflective Journal a PDF extracted from your research blog containing all weekly summaries and a final critical evaluation of the project, with a suggested word count of 250 words.
